The telugu version of the film was received with heavy criticism from fans and leaders of Telugu Desam Party for portraying Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao's character with negative shades. This controversy made the producers to trim the scenes involving Shatrughan Sinha portraying NTR.
n the movie it is shown that stones and bombs are thrown by Bukka Reddy and his men when Shivaji Rao NTR comes to Dharmavaram in the 1990s. And after that incident immediately Shivaji Rao flees in his car with a voiceover of Ram Gopal Varma calling him a coward.
In reality It was true that Obul Reddy made his men throw stones on the NTR and even few bombs in that area.But after he was thrown stones at, NTR walked for around one kilometer along with hordes of fans and party cadre and dared Obul Reddy to throw bombs on him and kill him.Inspite of repeated pleading from police to leave the area for security reasons NTR stood his ground the next few hours daring Obul Reddy to kill him.This boldness from NTR has surprised the police and the cadre and has become a hot topic at that time.
Ram Gopal Varma admitted his mistake regarding this incident and said that he got it wrong and said that he would make changes to this scene.
In the film it is shown that Shivaji Rao NTR hand Sighs and says 'Out' at Prathap Paritala Ravi to kill Bukka Reddy (Obul Reddy).
But NTR died one year before the murder of Obul Reddy and Ram Gopal Varma also admitted that he made a blunder regarding this incident.
